Whitby Museum

Whitby Museum provides a great day out for all ages. Be entertained AND educated at the same time!
The museum was founded in 1823 by the 'Whitby Literary and Philosophical Society' who still run it.
Here are just a few of the things you can see at the museum:
Ammonite fossil 200 million years old.
Magic hand used by burglars!
Ivory ship sold by a drunken Frenchman for 2 cases of beer.
A Whitby ship carved on a whale's tooth.
19th century model of Whitby jet workers.

Opening times: Tuesday to Sunday, 9.30 to 4.30 (also Bank Holiday Mondays).
Summer evening openings: open from 6.45 till 9.00 pm, admission £2.00 (children £1.00), on Wednesdays in August.
There will be illustrated talks on local subjects included in the admission price.
The Library and Archives: The 'Lit. & Phil.' Library contains books and other resources on the history of the Whitby area. Members of the public are welcome Tuesdays to Fridays 10 am - 1 pm and the first Sunday afternoon of each month 2 - 4 pm.
