I’ve been a Dracula films fan all of my life and still enjoy watching them whether they’re classic, silly, naff or frightening!

Here’s a classic from one of the greatest screen Draculas, Bela Lugosi.

Lugosi pours his heart and soul into the Prince of Darkness and for many he IS Dracula!

What do YOU think? I enjoy these old movies (even this butchered 9 minute version of a classic), but I can’t help preferring Christopher Lee’s rendition of Dracula.

Ahh… long hours scaring myself watching those wonderful Hammer Films. Happy days!

Christopher Lee has always been my favourite Dracula and many a scary night was spent as a kid watching old Hammer Films into the early hours. Lee’s cloak is in the ‘Dracula Experience’ on the harbour side in Whitby.

But what about Gary Oldman – is he an even better Dracula? What would Bram Stoker think?

Basically, it seems like some mad professor discovers the secret of immortality (there’s a catch – as an undead vampire!).  His assistant becomes his victim, lots of running around, inappropriate music for the soundtrack (except the music nicked from James Bernard’s great score) and exotic dance numbers.

Apparently, when ‘Zinda Laash‘ was first shown (in 1967) it was unusual in that it was given an ‘Adults Only’ certificate – Pakistan’s first ever ‘X’ rated film!

Now I must admit, to not having seen the film and I may be doing it a huge diservice.

Has anyone out there seen it?  I’m guessing nobody has (other than a few brave Dracula Society members), but if you are that rare creature who has actually sat through the film, PLEASE reply to this post and give us all a review.

If it’s good, I’m going to buy it – oh, yes!

Dracula’s Cape

Of even more interest, Elizabeth Kostova’s novel, ‘The Historian’, is also set to make its appearance on the big screen. I think the ‘Blair Witch’ guy could be involved!

If you haven’t read the novel, I suggest you do so as it’s an excellent read. It’s a kind of ‘thinking persons’ Dracula story, based on certain actual historical events, but with a gothic twist.

Things are looking up!
