If you live in the US, here’s the latest news from the Dracula’s Ball team…
It’s just about that time – our next Dracula’s Ball event is just ten days away on Saturday, May 23rd at Shampoo Nightclub, from 9pm-2am. Our live performers for this event will be legendary German band Das Ich, and a promising new group from New York City called September Mourning. Both of them are making their first appearances at the Ball. DJs Spider from North Carolina and Addam Bomb from Massachusetts are paying us a return visit, and Ohio’s DJ Fallen will be making his Ball debut. We’ll have three rooms open for your dancing pleasure, all night long (9pm-2am)
Advance tickets (which are less expensive and will get you through the door faster) will only be available a little while longer. Tickets are $15 and are on sale now through IsoTank.com, Digital Ferret CDs, Ticketmaster retail outlets and Ticketmaster.com. If you have questions about where or how to buy or pick up tickets, please visit the FAQ on our website. In fact, visit the FAQ on our site anyway. Admission at the door is $17.
Our venue as once again our haunt of choice, Shampoo Nightclub, located at 7th & Willow Streets in Philadelphia, PA (Mapquest/Google Maps info can be found on our website). As always, the Ball is open to all ages, but you must be 21+ with proper photo ID to drink. There is a large, free, enclosed parking lot, but it fills up quick for the Ball. Personal photo cameras are welcome. Large professional rigs with unpleasant flash bulbs are not. Video cameras are not allowed.
Some more about our performers:
SEPTEMBER MOURNING: If Emily “M” Lazar looks familiar to you, it’s probably because you’ve seen her in a magazine or on a billboard in ads for Draven, Manic Panic or Coffin Case, to name a few. If you’re expecting that her band does bland fashion-runway music, you’ve got quite a surprise coming. September Mourning is metal as hell, with a bit of electronics thrown in for good measure. Their demo was produced by guys who worked with Candiria and Lamb of God, just to give you an idea. They’re from New York City and this will be their first appearance at Dracula’s Ball.
STAGE TIME – 10:35PM
http://www.myspace.com/mlazarDAS ICH: Getting respect for your studio recordings and getting respect for your live concerts are two different things. Das Ich has consistently had both. Celebrating their twentieth anniversary this year, Das Ich has performed their driving blend of industrial music and gothic themes in several dozen countries, many of which do not speak the band’s native language (German). A Das Ich show is no mere concert; it’s a performance. Expect to hear some of the band’s best-known club hits as well as some of their most recent material.
STAGE TIME – 12:05AM
http://www.myspace.com/dasichWe look forward to catching up with all of you again very shortly.
Best wishes,

Posted under Dracula's Ball NewsQuick update to the independent Whitby post below (which seems to be arousing some strong views judging by the comments – GOOD!).

Posted under WhitbyThis post is probably only going to be of interest to those of you living in or around Whitby, but I would like to draw your attention to the following opportunity to ‘Have Your Say’ in the Whitby Gazette straw poll on the question:
“Do you think there should be a vote on whether Whitby becomes independent from Scarborough Borough Council?”
You might also like to read Nigel Ward’s comments in reply to ‘Sensibleman’, lower down on the same page, which I copy here for the benefit of those who would like to print it out to show to friends.
“There is indeed a very coherent Plan B, Sensibleman. A referendum result in favour of an independent Whitby carries no legal force, that is true, but the message it sends is just the first step in a well co-ordinated strategy to place Whitby firmly back in charge of her own destiny. That will take time. By stating clearly that we have had enough of watching our infrastructure falling into disrepair, we carry a powerful argument, supported by a mountain of evidence, all the way to Westminster.
The Mayor has stated that he will not settle for a bodge-job repair of our magnificent piers, but he is powerless to influence the outcome. We should settle for nothing less than full restoration of the piers – and never mind ‘sticking-plaster’ rock-armour repairs. Whitby should be dealing directly with DEFRA about the funding for this. Cut out the middleman. We have some very capable Councillors, and more waiting in the wings. Time to cut away the dead wood. We need strongly contested seats and every Councillor with a full electoral mandate. It’s called democracy. That is the kind of Council that will have the moral authority to regain our autonomy. It starts with a reasoned and lawful statement of intent. We are dissatisfied with SBC. It is our duty to stand up and say so. The Whitby worm has turned.”
Please take the trouble to register your opinion.

Posted under WhitbyJust a quick reminder to all our readers that Whitby has its very own Bram Stoker International Film Festival.
Here’s part of the festival’s mission statement:
The Bram Stoker International Film Festival established in order to provide more opportunities and exposure for filmmakers, screenwriters, Sci-Fi and games developers working within the horror, science fiction and suspense genres, as well as to draw more attention to WHITBY by means of our annual Film Festival.
It’s great to see that Whitby is attracting such quality events and this can only be a good thing for the town and its inhabitants.
Oh… and the website is entertaining too!
Click here to visit: Bram Stoker International Film Festival
Let me know what you think or if you have any thoughts about Whitby being used for filming, festivals, etc.
